Activity 1. Fish Animation

An animation of a fish is made by combining an assortment of distinct tools, methods, and concepts. It uses Adobe Animate software, which follows the techniques outlined in the instructional videos that the software provides. Several techniques are used in this fish animation to shape and design the fish in accordance with the required design and elements. It adds elements like scales, colors, and patterns to the fish to give it a realistic appearance on the 3D model. The fish's motions are defined by keyframes that are established over time. The design of characters is a concept in which the animated character's visual identity, species, color, size, and other distinguishing characteristics are all included.

For me, creating fish animation is a skill that grows with experience, and it helps me acquire deep knowledge and patience to understand its process in order to achieve better outcomes in my work. The video tutorials have been extremely helpful in guiding me step-by-step in creating a piece of fish animation. I learned a lot of techniques by using the concepts and principles that were used to create this activity. Furthermore, I learned and mastered how to make use of keyframes as well as the timeline structure in Adobe Animate to regulate the timing and pacing of animation.

It can be challenging to get realistic fish movement, especially because I am new to this type of animation task. Accurate timing and pace are required for a smooth and realistic-looking animation, making it more difficult to identify particular keyframes and technical details. Maintaining consistency in the fish creation throughout the animation gives me the confidence to accomplish better outcomes, even though it takes a long time to change the timing between keyframes as well as a poor internet connection that slows video uploading. I also typically save my work to limit the possibility of losing progress.

Creating fish animation requires the development of a wide range of skills artistically. Below are some of the particular skills I learned and enhanced through creating fish animation:

  1. Character Design:

    • Understanding fish anatomy and translating it into a visually appealing and realistic character design.

  2. Attention to Detail:

    • Paying attention to small details such as fish scales, eye expressions, and fin movements for a more lifelike appearance.

  3. Observational Skills:

    • Studying real fish movements and behaviors to replicate them in your animation.

  4. Consistency in Design:

    • Maintaining a consistent visual style and design throughout the animation.

  5. Storytelling through Animation:

    • Using animation to convey a narrative or tell a story, even if it's a short and simple one.

  6. Expressive Animation:

    • Conveying emotions or characteristics through the movement and behavior of the fish.
